Toor Whole — Tuver Whole | Whole Pigeon Peas | 4 lb, 8 lb & 55 lb
Toor Whole (tuver whole / whole pigeon peas) is the unprocessed, whole form of toor dal — the hull-on, unsplit pigeon pea. Heartier in texture and nuttier in flavour than split toor dal, it is used in rustic, slow-cooked dishes and is also popular for sprouting. A less common but traditional ingredient in Gujarati and South Indian cooking. Available in retail and bulk sizes.
Culinary Uses:
- Whole toor dal curry — a rustic, hearty slow-cooked lentil dish
- Mixed legume and bean curries
- Slow-cooked stews and soups
- Sprouted pigeon peas — for salads, chaat, and snacks
- Traditional Gujarati and South Indian recipes calling for whole tuver
- Mixed dal preparations with other whole legumes
Whole vs. Split Toor Dal: Whole toor retains its hull and takes longer to cook than split toor dal. It has a firmer, heartier texture and a more pronounced earthy, nutty flavour. Best for dishes where a chunkier texture is desired or for sprouting.
How to Use: Soak overnight in cold water (8–12 hours) before cooking. Drain, rinse, and pressure cook until completely tender. Whole pigeon peas take longer to cook than split dal.
