Fada — Cracked Wheat (Broken Wheat) | 4 lb, 8 lb & 40 lb
Fada (cracked wheat / broken wheat) is made from whole wheat berries that have been coarsely cracked. A wholesome grain with a nutty flavour and satisfying texture, it is a staple in Gujarati and South Asian cooking — most famously used in fada ni khichdi, the classic Gujarati one-pot comfort dish. Cooks faster than whole wheat berries while retaining a hearty, chewy bite. Available in retail and bulk sizes.
Culinary Uses:
- Fada ni khichdi — the classic Gujarati cracked wheat and lentil porridge, cooked with ghee and spices
- Broken wheat upma — a hearty savoury breakfast with vegetables and tempering
- Wheat porridge and daliya — plain or sweetened with jaggery and milk
- Soups and stews as a grain base — adds body and texture
- Grain pilafs and side dishes
- Tabbouleh — cracked wheat is the traditional base for this Middle Eastern salad
How to Cook: Rinse well before cooking. For khichdi or upma, dry roast in ghee or oil first for a deeper, nuttier flavour before adding water. Cooks in approximately 15–20 minutes on the stovetop, or faster in a pressure cooker.
